The International Festival of Literature and Translation of Iaşi (FILIT) is launching its call for applications in the cultural project FILIT Workshops for translators, an initiative of the National Museum of Romanian Literature in Iaşi a aiming to support cultural cooperation and promote the heritage.
Through this programme, fifteen translators will receive accommodation, reimbursement of transport inside Romania and a lump sum of 1,500 lei. Moreover, in order to encourage the collaboration between translators and writers, the Romanian authors who are interested in this project will be provided with accommodation, subject to availability.
The FILIT Workshops for translators will be held at the Ipoteşti Memorial – Mihai Eminescu National Study Centre, and will take place in the interval 3 – 12 September 2019. They will include an application session based on translating Eminescu’s texts, a meeting with writers from Botoşani and a round table on the topic of literary translation in general. The participants will be accommodated at the “Floare Albastră” complex, close to the “Mihai Eminescu” memorial home and to the chapel belonging to the Eminovici family.
The beneficiaries of the residency have the obligation to translate ten pages of text from the works of a Romanian author and one of Mihai Eminescu’s poetic texts or an excerpt from his prose/articles (chosen by the translator from his entire body of work or from a selection proposed by the Ipoteşti Memorial), for which to grant non-exclusive publishing rights to the National Museum of Romanian Literature in Iaşi and to the Ipoteşti Memorial. Moreover, whenever the translation is published, a note must mention that the text has been translated with the support of the FILIT Workshops for translators at Ipoteşti. Particular attention will be given to projects involving writers represented in the network of literary museums in Iaşi, and at the Ipoteşti Memorial.
The application file must include the following documents in Romanian:
