FILIT – the International Festival of Literature and Translation in Iaşi is honoured to announce the first names of the guests who will take part in the 11th edition of the event.
Between 18 and 22 October 2023, the public will have the opportunity to meet guests from 25 countries, important names of contemporary Romanian and international literature. Among them will be the most appreciated authors in Romania in recent years, who feature constantly on the bestseller lists: Markus Zusak (bestselling author of The Book Thief, a writer considered a “literary phenomenon”), Guzel Yakhina (one of the most internationally acclaimed writers, with novels translated in over 40 countries), Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt (author of numerous novels and plays, translated into over 45 languages, winner of over 20 literary awards), Burhan Sönmez (whose works have been translated into over 40 languages, winner of numerous literary prizes and awards, President of PEN International), Mircea Cărtărescu (the best known Romanian author, with over 120 books published outside Romania in 25 languages, winner of numerous international prizes).
Other international guests at FILIT 2023, internationally multi-awarded and with works translated into many languages, are: Giulia Caminito (Italy), Lidija Dimkovska (Northern Macedonia), Monika Fagerholm (Finland), Franzobel (Austria), Petra Hůlová (Czech Republic), Maylis de Kerangal (France), Ana Merino (Spain/USA), Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir (Iceland), Karina Sainz Borgo (Venezuela/Spain), Ingo Schultze (Germany), Morten Strøksnes (Norway).
The list of guests continues with foreign translators who have fallen in love with Romanian literature and contributed to the translation and publication in their home countries of the works of dozens of Romanian writers. They are Elena Borrás García (Spain), Goran Čolakhodžić (Croatia), Antònia Escandell Tur (Spain), André Ferenc (Romania), Jarmila Horáková (Czech Republic), Manuela Klenke (Germany), Jozefina Komporaly (United Kingdom), Joanna Kornaś-Warwas (Poland), Stéphane Lambion (Belgium), Roberto Merlo (Italy).
Also participating at FILIT 2023 will be Romanian authors Cristina Alexandrescu, Lilia Calancea, Gabriel Cărtărescu, Magda Cârneci, Cristina Chira, Cristian Fulaș, Mihai Iovănel, Cosmin Leucuța, Cătălina Matei, Ștefania Mihalache, Artiom Oleacu, Radu Paraschivescu, Florin Partene, Alina Purcaru, Mihai Radu, Dan Sociu, Ioana Stăncescu, Bogdan-Alexandru Stănescu, Lucian Vasilescu and Augustina Vişan.
Casa Copilăriei (Children’s Palace Iaşi) will have as guests Lavinia Braniște, Cristina Centea, Laura Grünberg, Ana-Maria Sandu and Piotr Socha, and at Casa Fantasy (Casa de Cultură a Sindicatelor) the audience will have the opportunity to meet Anamaria Borlan, Teodora Matei, Monica Ramirez, Doina Roman and Mircea Țara.
The organisers underline that the list above includes only the first part of the guests at FILIT 2023. This will be followed by a list of special guests who will be the focus of numerous events, debates and professional meetings – writers, cultural managers, editors, journalists, activists, musicians, photographers.
FILIT is an annual project organised by the National Museum of Romanian Literature in Iaşi and funded by the Iaşi County Council. This year’s edition takes place under the high patronage of the European Commission Representation in Romania and under the patronage of the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO.
