The 9th edition of the “FILIT workshops for translators”, organised by the National Museum of Romanian Literature in Iaşi together with the Ipoteşti Memorial – Mihai Eminescu National Centre for Studies will be held in the interval 2-6 October 2023,
Since 2015, the Workshops have provided a framework for training, as well as for inter-human and professional communication for those who translate Romanian literature into other languages.
The participants in the current edition come from nine countries: Jale Ismayil (Azerbaijan), Fernado Klabin (Brazil), Lora Nenkovska (Bulgaria), Silvia Storti (Italy), Alexey Kubanov (Kazakhstan), Stefan Bolea (Romania, English), Roxana Ilie (Romania, German), Száva Csanád, Szonda Szabolcs, (Romania, Hungarian), Lara Potočnik (Slovenia) Guest translators Angela Bratsou (Greece) and Gabriella Koszta (Hungary) will also be present.
This year’s schedulre of the Workshops includes two round tables moderated by Monica Joița, Minister-Counsellor at the Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a number of lectures by well-known writers, university professors, literary critics such as Florin Bican, Ioana Bot, Bogdan Crețu, Marin Mălaicu-Hondrari, Doris Mironescu, Radu Vancu. A working session will be applied to the translation of Eminescu’s poem “Vis”.
Together with the invited lecturers, the translators will reflect on the interpretation and transposition into different languages of classic and contemporary texts of Romanian literature and will discuss strategies for promoting Romanian literature abroad in the context of today’s changing and challenging global world, including in terms of book market dynamics.
“FILIT workshops for translators” is one of the initiatives of MNLR Iași and FILIT International Festival of Literature and Translation Iași that support contemporary creation and the international promotion of cultural heritage, contributing to the development of a broad system of literary residencies in Eastern Europe.
